Valuable Resources for Seniors

Lake City-based Hunger Intervention Program (HIP) works to bring food to local families and now seniors through its Healthy HIP Packs Program, meal programs, and by advocating for our hungry neighbors.

HIP’s Senior Meals don’t simply offer great food. Speakers from various community groups join us to share special resources, activities, and classes designed especially for seniors. Here’s a sampling of some of our visitors from the past few months and the tidbits they shared.

Julie Hearne

Local cookbook author and HIP volunteer, Julie Hearne, offered a free cooking class at HIP’s Senior Meal.

Seattle Parks Lifelong Recreation
Seattle Parks Lifelong Recreation is now offering 3 Fitness Classes a week for ages 50+ at Lake City Community Center.  They also host a wide variety of fitness, arts, educational and social programs at the other 5 Community Centers in NE Seattle which include Northgate, Ravenna Eckstein, Meadowbrook, Laurelhurst and Magnuson.  Call Cheryl Brown at 386-9106 or check out our brochure on line at www.seattle.gov/parks/seniors

Wallingford Community Senior Center
The Wallingford COMMUNITY Senior Center is a warm and welcoming space where older adults in north Seattle can continue to learn and thrive while moving through life’s transitions in a positive and healthy way. Lake City Library Branch
Molly Humphries, Adult Services Librarian, visits our senior lunch every month and shares great resources like these with us.  All can be accessed through the library’s website at www.spl.org

Genealogical information and records including the U.S. and Canadian Census, the Washington State Death Index 1940-1996 and the Social Security Death Index.

Genealogy books and serials, primarily from the early 1900’s and the complete U.S. Federal Census, 1790-1930. Digitized images are fully searchable and printable.
