Anders is one of our eight Summer Corps members who served at the Lake City Court meal site. Here he writes about a typical day for him during the summer.

Wow! I can’t believe how quickly these 10 weeks have gone by. I’ve had an absolute blast serving kids and parents over at Lake City Court. Here’s a glimpse into what my typical day looks like.

As some of you may know, I get to drive the small HIP van to and from my meal site. In the morning, I load up the van full of food and supplies from the church for both Jane Addams and Lake City Court meal sites. I first drop off Maeve, a fellow Summer Corps Member, and her supplies at Jane Addams then head off to Court!

Here, I’m greeted with “Hi food people!” Then I start serving lunch. Once the kids are done eating, they like to play on the playground or engage in fun activities. The kids really enjoy face painting, blowing bubbles, and more recently, playing with chickens! Once I’m done serving, I load up my supplies and leftovers into the van. Next, I pick up Maeve with her supplies and head back to the church.

This past summer has been a lot of fun and a very rewarding experience. It feels good knowing that I’ve made a positive impact in the lives of others.
