Team HIP at Hunger Acton Day 2017

During each legislative session, the Anti-Hunger & Nutrition Coalition hosts Hunger Action Day, our lobby day in Olympia that highlights issues facing hungry families in Washington State, and brings their stories and priorities to legislators in the positions to make change that reduces hunger. Check out our coalition’s 2018 legislative priorities that go beyond emergency food assistance and addresses some of the root causes of hunger.

One of the issues that we are hopeful about this year is about expanding access to school breakfast for hungry kids. The Breakfast after the Bell bill is back on the agenda for the 5th year in a row. Feeding kids a healthy school breakfast is a cost-effective and efficient solution that can have a dramatic impact on their long-term academic, health and economic futures. HB 1508, which includes school breakfast and funding for WSDA’s Farm to School program, passed the house (83-15) last week with passionate bipartisan support. They now go to Senate and our goal is to keep this momentum up! This is a good time to call or email your senators to make sure they know you want their support for #SchoolBreakfast and #WashingtonFarmers.

Your voice matters. Join Hunger Intervention Program and hundreds of other advocates from all across Washington State in Olympia on February 5th. Register now! Our legislators need to hear directly from you about the need to end hunger.

No experience necessary! Training and guidance will be provided. We hope you can join us. Let us know if you’d like any transportation help.
