Yet another threat to SNAP that will make millions hungry

Your action today can stop that

If you think you have heard this before, you’ll be right! However, this is a new attack on Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP or commonly knows as food stamps). Submit public comment today on the Trump Administration’s latest proposed rule to limit SNAP benefits by changing how utility costs are calculated to determine SNAP eligibility and benefit levels — comments are due by Monday, Dec. 2!

Based on an analysis by DSHS out this month, this new rule would likely result in more than a $16.4 MILLION reduction in SNAP benefits per month in Washington state alone. That is simply outrageous and unacceptable.

The new USDA calculation would eliminate states’ ability to use state-specific metrics that more accurately assess actual utility expenses by local low income households. Instead, USDA would use info in the American Community Survey (ACS) and would assume that Washingtonians have the same kinds of heating and utility costs as Oregon, Alaska and Hawaii.

Please take a few minutes today to submit a personalized comment here. You’ll also find more information from Food Research and Action Center about the proposed rule and tips for writing your comment. ACT NOW!
