Black Lives Matter: A statement from HIP

by | Jun 16, 2020 | Blog, News / Press Release | 0 comments

Hunger Intervention Program (HIP) stands in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement in denouncing ongoing institutional and systemic racism that has led to the murder of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and violence towards countless other black individuals before them. HIP understands that the ability to access food and lead healthy lives is deeply intertwined with racism, resulting in vastly disproportionate health outcomes for black and Indigenous communities. HIP’s work to increase food security, and therefore to improve the health outcomes for the most oppressed people, is insufficient without a clear anti-racist focus. HIP is committed to working towards food justice by centering anti-racism in all our programs, internal policies, and practices. HIP understands that becoming an anti-racist organization is an ongoing process and we’ll continue to report on the actions that we undertake as part of our accountability to the diverse communities that we serve.
