SUMMARY:Kimchi Harvest Cooking Demo
DESCRIPTION:  \n\nDate: Friday\, April 5th\nTime: 6:00 – 8:00pm\nLocation: Hunger Intervention Program\n3841 NE 123rd St\nSeattle\, WA 98125 \nDETAILS\nThe evening will begin with drinks (beer\, wine\, soju\, and N/A options)\, appetizers (featuring KFC-style fried mushrooms with gochujang sauce\, assorted small snacks\, and tteokbokki)\, and a time to get acquainted with the group. After that\, we will split into groups of 2 or 4 and start the cooking demonstration portion of the event. The demo will begin with a pantry tasting. After this\, the prep work will begin with knife skills and mise en place. Each station will have its own burner and Dutch oven or saute pan. The Kimchi JJigae will be prepared first. Then\, other banchan demos will be completed while the Kimchi JJigae boils down. After that\, the meal will be completed\, and people can take a short break while the pork belly is finished in the kitchen. Then…..the feast begins! \nPURCHASE TICKETS\nSold Out \nAll profits from this event will directly support HIP’s programs\, which provide fresh meals\, nutrition education\, and more to vulnerable populations in our community. For those who would like to attend the event but find the cost to be a barrier\, please email andrew@hungerintervention.org\, and we will do our best to accommodate a low-cost ticket. You can also email Andrew if you want to attend but need to pay with a check\, want to host a group or table or need special accommodation. \n\nMEET THE CHEF\nSenior Meals Head Chef David Salerno \nOriginally from the Northeast\, David (he/him) has been in Seattle since 2016. He studied classic culinary arts at the French Culinary Institute in NYC and most recently worked as a culinary instructor and resident chef at Sur La Table. He can completely nerd out over culinary anthropology and talk about food and food science for hours with anyone willing to listen. When not in the kitchen\, you can find him playing hockey or running in different neighborhoods of Seattle. \n\n\n\n My Journey to Korean Food\nI was adopted from Korea\, raised in New Jersey in an American Italian household\, and trained at the French Culinary Institute. This last year\, I returned to Seoul 37 years later and found myself learning so much. I invite you to come and cook with me\, learn with me\, and be part of a Korean communal meal.\n\n Finding Your Perfect Bite of Ssam\nIf you’ve been to a Korean BBQ\, you might have seen the word Ssam. What is it? What is your perfect bit of ssam? \nOur Kimchi Harvest meal will give you the opportunity to try all sorts of Ssam. Join us to find out what your perfect bite is!
