Kamayan is a colorful and communal feast featuring grilled meats\, vegetables\, and sides served traditionally on banana leaves. For those who would like to attend the event but find the cost to be a barrier\, please email info@hungerintervention.org and we will do our best to accommodate a low-cost ticket. \n\nMEET THE CHEF\nRachel Mina (she/her) was born in the Philippines\, immigrated to the Pacific Northwest at the age of 5\, and grew up in the White Center area. After spending a decade working in healthcare admin\, Rachel found her love for food justice through volunteer work. She has since worked at FareStart’s School Meals & Shelter Meals program in Seattle and helped open Librairie Gourmande\, a culinary event/training space\, in Grays Harbor. Currently\, she is the program coordinator for HIP’s Shelter Meals program\, providing dinners and breakfasts to residents of The Oaks Enhanced Shelter seven days a week. Her interests include both playing and watching basketball\, visiting museums in small towns\, and taking the ferry on a nice day. \n\nDETAILS\nBegin your evening with a drink and some tsitsirya (Filipino snacks). Then\, get up close and personal with Filipino cuisine by attending a short workshop on one of three traditional dishes (lumpia\, turon\, or ube ice cream). Finally\, sit down to the Kamayan feast\, which will feature Filipino-style grilled meats & seafood\, pancit\, lumpia\, garlic rice\, and an assortments of vegetables and dipping sauces. Finish off the evening with fresh-cut tropical fruit\, turon (fried caramel banana egg rolls)\, cassava cake\, and ube ice cream. \n*Food items are subject to change*

DESCRIPTION:The Lake City Summer Festival is back on August 6th\, and HIP is excited to be hosting the traditional Salmon Bake meal as a part of this event. The Salmon Bake is a tradition that dates back to the 1950’s. Originally hosted by the Lake City Lions Club\, HIP took over the Salmon Bake in 2019 for the first time. We are excited to keep this tradition alive.\n \nThe Salmon Bake will run on August 6th from 12 – 5pm at the Lake City Community Center. This year you can skip the line by pre-ordering your meal. \nWant to get involved? Sign up to volunteer! \nMENU\nFull Salmon Meal ($18): includes grilled wild Alaskan salmon\, coleslaw\, potato salad\, locally-sourced fruit\, and dessert*\nSenior Full Salmon Meal ($15): includes grilled wild Alaskan salmon\, coleslaw\, potato salad\, locally-sourced fruit\, and dessert for ages 60+*\nSalmon Only ($9): a fillet of grilled wild Alaskan salmon with no sides\nVeggie Dog ($8): grilled vegetarian sausage with no sides\n*sides are subject to change \nPRE-ORDER YOUR MEAL\nDONATE\nFor the first time\, HIP will be providing a limited number of no-cost Solidarity Meals so that the Salmon Bake can be more inclusive to all. HIP’s resident Senior Community Meal chef David Salerno will answer your questions and lead you in a simple weeknight meal prep.  \nDavid studied classic culinary arts at the French Culinary Institute and also has a background in bartending and spirits.
