Volunteer Spotlight: Meet Sarah

Welcome to another volunteer spotlight! This week we’re meeting Sarah, a second year nursing student at Gonzaga University. Sarah found HIP while looking for volunteer opportunities for the summer, and has been volunteering with both our Shelter Meals and Senior Meals programs weekly ever since.

Sarah appreciates how HIP’s work “really aligns with what I’m trying to do as a nurse, ensuring that people’s basic needs are being met.” She enjoys how HIP does not work with a single demographic, but instead makes sure that everyone from kids to seniors are able to access nutritious food.

Sarah can tell you that there’s always something new to learn in the HIP kitchen. One of her most memorable shifts involved making key lime pie for our Shelter Meals program. “I’ve never made a key lime pie before, and it was interesting to work with something different. Every time I come here I get a little bit more experience in the kitchen.”

We’ll definitely be missing Sarah when she heads back to school in the fall, but we’re so grateful for the many hours she contributed to HIP this summer!
