For November, we want to highlight Shannon, who has been volunteering with us for almost three years! Shannon explained that she’s not a stranger to volunteering; she’s been doing it her whole adult life, whether at her kids’ schools, church, or nursing home. After retiring from nursing, she came across HIP, was intrigued by our work, and appreciated our flexibility in our shifts.
It was particularly heartwarming that she loved learning about the Senior Meal program and how it “accomplishes bringing such nutritious and beautiful food to seniors in our community.” Another part of volunteering Shannon enjoys is working with and learning about the other volunteers and staff while sharing a common goal.
During her time here, Shannon has volunteered with the Senior Meals program for meal prep, serving, and delivery! She has also helped with different cooking class series for seniors and families focused on nutritious cooking.
She summarized her experience volunteering at HIP and said, “I have enjoyed seeing the various aspects of this impactful program and all that it takes to get it done. I would definitely recommend volunteering for HIP to a friend. The mission is important, the work is doable, fun, and flexible, and it is enjoyable to meet new people sharing a common goal.”
We are so glad to have someone like Shannon volunteering with us. Thank you for the care and passion you bring to HIP, your intentionality is felt and appreciated.
